Welcome to Willow Class

Hello, DVS community and in particular Willow Class Parents! I am looking forward to being your child’s class teacher this year. Working together in partnership with parents, is key to progress your children’s all-round learning. In achieving to their full potential, to thrive and impotently be happy at school and have those memories they can fondly look back on. Hence, foremost I wish to warmly encourage active communication, so please do get in touch via the school office or come to speak to me at collection or drop off to make an appointment should you need to voice anything.

The move to Key Stage 2 allows your child to engage in a more broad and balanced curriculum, with less focus on phonics and early maths and reading. The children will start to develop their knowledge and deeper understanding of History, Geography, Science and other subjects, only covered in KS2, like learning a new language. Key Stage 2 is a very important stage in terms of the children’s independence and confidence. At Denham Village School, we are committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment where your child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

We have a busy, exciting, and fun year ahead. The LK2 terms will be filled with lots of active learning and our curriculum this year in all areas will engage the children in plenty of challenges, being dynamic, stimulating discussion, creativity, investigation, enthused writing and of course new gained knowledge and discoveries! I love to encourage, use, and bring digital learning into the classroom at every opportunity as it’s a great way to bring the classroom learning ‘alive, immersing and engaging the children’s learning and importantly to become ‘tech-savvy’. I believe that a happy, fun, and inspiring classroom makes for great learning.

Reading is at the heart of our curriculum, and we encourage you to continue to read to your child. We are never too old to listen to someone read.

Homework will be sent home on Thursdays. Please ensure that they have time to complete it and return it by Tuesday. It will help them to consolidate their learning and give them the opportunity to recall past learning from previous weeks and years. They will also have the opportunity to find out key information about upcoming topics.

PE will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays, but we would like children to have their PE kits in school every day.

I am very excited to be working with you and your child this year.

Best wishes,

Mrs Schroff

I am a great believer in always ‘having a go’, to be positive and to do our best – you never know what you can accomplish or achieve! – the one thing I always say to the children I teach and ties in with DVS’s school values!
